Art of Reasoner by Tellytubby101
A world in which Sherlock is an artist, not a detective. Though that doesn't mean he can't help solve crimes. AU.(Sherlock-centric, eventual Sherlock/John, AU)
One of the Sherlock fandom classics. I've seen this fic rec'ced so many times, I'd decided to try it out myself. And yes, this fic really is a wonderful read. The character build up is well done and the reasoning behind artist!Sherlock works so well it doesn't break off his personality. And the ending, gods, the ending. T_T
What meets the eye - worldaccordingtofangirls
Amnesia is just another case to solve. Piece together unfamiliar faces, reconstruct the old identity, the lost reality. A challenge that Sherlock could even enjoy. He can read people like books. The man with the silver hair is his boss. The tottering old woman, his landlady. The girl with the worried look in her eyes…infatuated. And as for John Watson? His husband. Obviously. (Sherlock/John)
Only Sherlock would go about his life with amnesia without alerting everyone around him. This is the most plausible fic I'd ever read. Still lovely characterization.
The Dreamer God and the Inbetweener - oreganotea
John is still an adrenaline junkie ex-army doctor. He is also an amnesiac Dreamer God. Sherlock is still the only consulting detective in the world. He is also an Inbetweener. (Sherlock/John, AU)
A very fascinating AU about various worlds and Dreamer God. For a moment I had a TRC/Sherlock plotbunny. XDD anyway, the snippets were done in a way that I didn't want this verse to stop.
Faerie touched by Blind Author
Complete. AU. In a world of sorcerers and magic, Sherlock is a Faerie-born and John, lacking any kind of magical talent, often seems a bit out of place. But he has a gift all his own...Slash, Sherlock/John
I've been avoiding this fic for a while and now I feel stupid. It's really a wonderful and enjoyable story. Especially that part about John and up to the climatic section.
Vampires, Mates and Thralls series by VelvetMace (vampire!AU, Mycroft/Lestrade, Sherlock/John, NC-17)
Mycroft is a 300 year old vampire with his life and ambitions pretty much order: First set his errant brother straight, next take over the world. But to do the former seems impossible, while the latter requires that he find a mate -- a rare human whose blood is capable of helping him create vampires. Both his answers come in the shape of one man: Detective Inspector Gregory Lestrade. The problem? Mates can't be forced and Lestrade has no interest in becoming Mycroft's.
Sherlock is sober, but his life is still spiraling down hill. Despite this, he has resisted the notion of ever getting a mate. The very idea of having a human balancing his life is abhorrent. As Mycroft, a case, and a new flatmate all vie for his attention, he misses the most important clue of his life: that his mate has found him.
Both series are wonderfully done. There are so many vampire fics out there, it's hard to find enjoyable, quirky and less cliche ones among all of them so this series was quite a lovely surprise for me. I definitely recommend them to be read in this order.
